Breast Without Spot, a member of the Union for International Cancer Control (UICC) headquartered in Enugu, Nigeria is a not-for-profit, non-governmental organization founded in 2008 with the sole aim of enthroning the prevention and early detection of cancers and other non-communicable diseases with shared risk factor in Nigeria.

The name ‘Breast Without Spot’ is essentially chosen intentionally chosen in order to send the message of advocacy for ‘breasts that have no lumps, lesions or anomalies’ in Nigeria. The NGO started off in 2008 as one that set out to raise the awareness of breast cancers alone but due to the  growing incidence of cervical cancers and other preventable cancers, the NGO extended its objectives to include advocacy for other types of preventable cancers such as cervical, prostate and  colorectal cancer to name a few.

After attending the United Nations High Level Meeting of September 2011 as a delegate from the Nigerian Government, the President and Founder of Breast Without Spot, Prof Ifeoma Okoye was challenged by the United Nations resolution to ‘reduce 25% of mortality due to non-communicable diseases by 2025’. BWS then decided to ‘kill two birds with one stone’ by advocating for other non-communicable diseases that have shared risk factors (Smoking, Physical inactivity, Excessive alcohol consumption and unhealthy diet) with cancer. These include diabetes, heart disease and chronic lung diseases.
